Global Medical Brigades

Global Medical Brigades

About

Global Medical Brigades is an international, student-led organization of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems and empower community members to lead healthier lives. We work in remote, rural, and under-resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua, and Ghana that otherwise have limited to no access to health care for 7-9 day long brigades during Spring Break every year. Members who elect to go on the brigade experience direct patient intake/triage, observe patient consultations alongside physicians (primary care, dental, OB/GYN, optometry, physical therapy), practice healthy habits with community members, prepare prescriptions under the guidance of a pharmacist, practice their conversational and medical Spanish, and learn the importance of Global Brigades' holistic model for increasing access to healthcare!

We meet biweekly or weekly throughout the year to learn about the communities we will be working with, practice skills we will use on brigade (like taking blood pressure and speaking Spanish), bond as a group, and fundraise.

If you are interested in any health profession, public health, or just enjoy serving others, GMB is a great way to learn about making a sustainable impact and meeting people with similar interests!
