About
The HCC exec board works closely with the W&M pre-med adviser to support pre-health students on campus through its Pre-med Mentoring Program and student, professor, and doctor-led panels.
Pre-med Mentoring Program: This program connects older, more-experienced pre-med students with incoming students, transfers, or those new to the pre-med track. Mentoring groups have up to four mentees per mentor and meet three times per semester. Mentors offer advice on choosing classes, gaining medical experience, and how to navigate the pre-med track at W&M.
Student Panels: HCC invites students who have been involved in a certain aspect of the pre-med track to speak about their experiences in an informal, Q&A-type panel format. Past panels have included subjects such gaining clinical experience, studying abroad as a pre-med, MCAT preparation advice, how to get involved in shadowing, and more.
Professional Panels: HCC occasionally features panels such as "Conversation with the Docs", and all-physician panel, or brings together professors from different disciplines on campus to discuss a topic, such as "Health Disparities in the US." At the end of every year, the W&M pre-med adviser, Dr. Sher, puts on a "How to Apply to Medical School" presentation for pre-med students on campus.
Partnerships: HCC also partners with the Cohen Career Center to put on blended programs such as "LinkedIn for Pre-meds."
