Pointe Blank Dance Company

Pointe Blank Dance Company

About

Overview

Pointe Blank is a student-run dance company at The College of William and Mary that performs in multiple styles of dance including, but not limited to, jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, and tap. We put on a showcase that highlights our members' talent and choreography at the end of every semester.

Auditions & Membership

We hold auditions at the beginning of every semester- usually, the first Saturday after classes start. The general audition will start promptly at 10:00 am, we recommend arriving 15 minutes early.

The general audition includes a technical warm-up in center, ~3 across-the-floor sequences, and a 35-50 second combination, in the style of jazz or contemporary, that will be taught at the audition. You will be asked to improv across the floor and in center. We also offer a supplemental ballet at the end of our general audition.

Pointe Blank also holds a separate tap audition at 11:30 am. Dancers are allowed to audition only to tap in the company if they wish (as opposed to performing all styles). The tap audition will consist of a warm-up and a series of short exercises to demonstrate tap skills and knowledge.

If accepted, individuals that only complete the tap audition may only perform in tap pieces. Members who complete the general audition without the tap audition may not perform in tap pieces.

Flexible Time Commitment

You choose your commitment in Pointe Blank! Dancers can choose to be in up to 6 dances every semester. Each dance equates to one hour of rehearsal time per week. Dancers choose what styles they choreograph and perform in.
